The UP Diliman (UPD) Office of Advancement of Teaching (OAT) under the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (OVCAA),aims to lead the development of the necessary systems, mechanisms, and programs designed to ensure quality teaching and learning particularly evident in the University of the Philippines Diliman, the largest constituent university of the University of the Philippines (UP) System.
The OAT is dedicated to serve UP Diliman educators - teachers who make quality education a reality by creating enriching learning experiences, providing insights that provoke creative and critical thought, and mentoring talented scholars striving to become the best in their field.
MHPSS-related services:
Kalinga Hubs (k-hubs): This is a safe (virtual) space for faculty, by the faculty. There are 3 hubs that may be opened depending on the need: k-hobbies (para sa mga may kasanayang kasalukuyang kinakarir); k-mmunities (para sa kumustahan at kalingaan), and k-socials (para sa kulitan). A hub is a semi-structured activity or discussion group —format varies depending on the type— that usually lasts for an hour and is facilitated by a co-faculty (k-sama).
Teaching Effectiveness Course: The Teaching Effectiveness Course (TEC) is an intensive training course on effective teaching conducted twice a year intended for new or early-career faculty members in the university teaching at the undergraduate level. The course offers principles and strategies on creating learning experiences that promote mastery, enhance creative and integrative thinking, and enrich understanding in relation to effective teaching. Holistic and learner-focused, the TEC exposes teachers to various workshops including instructional development plan, test construction and assessments, student engagement activities, among others while adjusting to the changing structure and content (i.e. mandate, teaching modes, and approaches).
University Teaching Program: Faculty and academic staff have the opportunity to review and enhance their competencies via University Teaching (UT) seminars held throughout the academic year. These sessions focus on planning and design, delivery, assessment or evaluation, best practices, and strategic insights on education and pedagogy. The OAT also provides support to departments and colleges on such topics as addressing the psychosocial needs of faculty and students, collaborative and cooperative learning, universal design of learning, and understanding the gifted and twice exceptional.
